What do you think is the effect of the current global economic crisis on mission in Africa?

MTA Special Fund Appeal

Over the Easter weekend we launched the MTA Special Fund Appeal to help us offset a significant outstanding deficit. This is a special appeal where we are kindly requesting friends of MTA to consider giving a one-off special donation towards the support of MTA. As you might be aware, it is now almost four years since Mission Together Africa (MTA) was launched - in September 2005. God has been very gracious to us in this pioneering phase of the ministry. He has miraculously enabled us to cover so much ground as we sought to come alongside local churches and individual Christians in helping them put mission at the core of their existence.

It has not been easy though, especially to get friends to come alongside us to support this new ministry - in prayers, financially and in kind. Partly this is expected since we were totally new, with no track record and in a context where many similar initiatives in the past have disappointed those who attempted to support them. Thankfully, we got a few individuals and organizations who fully believed in the vision of MTA and therefore sacrificially gave the "seed resources" which amazingly helped MTA to get off the blocks to the point where currently we have 14 MTA staff - 3 "full-time" plus 11 apprentices.

We have now reached a point in time where we feel that MTA is poised to enter a much higher level of mission engagement. We want to expand our existing programmes and launch news ones. And for this to happen, we are seeking to have more friends, churches, and organizations coming on board to support this vision.

However, we are currently struggling to clear an outstanding deficit of almost KES 250,000 (approx USD 3,400). It is with this in mind that we launched this MTA Special Fund Appeal to request you and other MTA friends to consider giving a one-off donation to help "plug this leaking bucket" and thus be able to move forward to the next phase on a "clean slate". We acknowledge the current challenging economic situation and therefore would not put undue pressure on you. But whatever you can give, please feel free to do so. Check out the MTA Special Fund Appeal document for more finer details on how you can channel your donation. If you are not in a position to give at this point in time, we do understand. Thank you.

You could also give in kind - through donating your skills  (i.e. we currently need people with accounting, resource mobilization and transcribing skills, among others); equipment donations (i.e. basic office equipment); hosting our apprentices or teams of young people in your home for a meal and/or times of retreats; linking MTA to potential supporters; etc. Let me know if you are interested in any of these or in other areas I might have not mentioned, then we'll discuss the suitability and modalities. Thank you.

Ultimately, we wish to have all our MTA friends regularly praying for us. Towards this end, we regularly update the Prayer Section of this website and we quarterly publish/email our MTA Newsletters - MTA Storyline plus other newsletters. Please feel free to visit various sections of the MTA website as it has a lot more information on MTA. and do not hesitate to get in touch with me for any further clarifications.

Thank you for your time, prayers and support. May you know the gracious favour of the Lord upon your life, family and ministry.

Duncan Olumbe (MTA Coordinator)
